What do you do when black hair dye starts to grow out?

I have naturally medium brown hair and recently dyed it black. i can see hints of the black starting to come through and luckily no roots yet, but when the roots do start to show, what should i do to go back to being a brunette?

Hey There, The only way to remove black hair tint is to strip it slightly. Ask your local hair wholesale to supply you with this.. Then you could also get a brown semi like L'Oreal Diacolour gellee.. This will give your hair a nice shine and also a sort of conditioning cover up..

Do a root touch up with the black or an all over dye similar to your natural colour.

One thing to keep in mind is that now your hair is darker being black you will have to take that into consideration when you choose a color to go back to brunette. Choose a lighter than you normally would or that is lighter than your natural color to help lighten up the black in your hair.

Either touch up the roots only...to keep it black....(only apply to the new hair growing in)....Getting black out of hair is the worst nightmare for a stylist......because to remove black color is almost impossible to do without damaging the hair a lot....Luckily it fades out quicker than most colors so you might just let it be for awhile.... and then try to match up your browns...with a medium brown tint......applying it only to the hair that's been colored before............good luck

Hi it all depends on what you want to do, as I know if you try to go lighter or dye over the black with a lighter shade of brown it wont cover the black at all, Ive tried it. So I would let it grow out for the time being and wait till the dye has faded loads enought to maybe get away with going over it in a different colour. But not until it fades.

But its up to you do you want your normal hair colour back of keep it black. But there is the only trouble with black once you dye it this colour you can go anyother colour until your hair grows back. Of course you can bleach it out but as I know its a recipe for disatster, then you have to spend years of covering over the patchy reddy orange colour when its easier just to not ever dye it black and stay your normal colour.

So if you want to keep it in good contition dye the roots black or let it grow out or fade.

This color is going to remain in your hair until it grows out or is taken out.

if you can remember what your natural colour was, choose a hairdye, re-dye it therefore there won't be as much difference as it would be if your roots started to grow with black hair!! then get it trimmed as normal and soon enough the hair will be au natural again!! lol

some black is hard to shift .you may need to go to the hairdresser and have black lowlights and a hi-lift red to blend it through . i hope the colour wasnt permanant .

you really should have thought about this before you dyed your hair black to be honest!

everyone knows 'once you turn black, you never go back'!

thats true! you dye over black and it wont show!

the only way to go back to brown is to go hairdressers and they will bleach your hair and dye it brown...hopefully you might be lucky and your hair isnt TOO dead...and wont fall out as much.

now...you could either by root-retouch for everytime your roots grow out...for YEARS to come!

OR you could cut short layers and then you mess them up with fibre putty...so when the roots start appearing...you wont be able to see it as much.
