Suggestions on highlights to match long black hair?

hi!

i have long black hair and have intention of straightening it.but cuz i realise it would give a very dull and boring look,i was thinking of colouring either just my fringe area or maybe some interesting streaks of colour to give a twist from the boring straights .Any suggestions on what colour would match the black hair?like something out of the ordinary that will stilll look good and not give a trashy look.. go see a salon that uses goldwell colors...they have an excellent intense color line in reds.blues.purples..etc....i have black hair and i have random chunks of deep purple....it looks great....alot of compliments i get and have noticed that some of my clients are asking for it...this week im putting some purple streaks in my bosses hair...(she is in 50's and has been stylist for over 25 years)...so no one is too old or too young for this color...or go red or blue...all looks good in black hair...good luck

if you want something more real looking you know. natrual, go for like a caramel brown, light brown, something like that. if u want something out of the ordinary go for pink haa or maybe purple. idk i hate the fake look.

Well first off, don't try to highlight black hair yourself, its a mistake waiting to happen. When you go to the salon ask your stylist for suggestions, if he/she is good then she will help you pick out something you really want. As for color suggestions, red always looks good in black hair, because it blends in, but stands out at the same time. Just make sure your stylist bleaches the places where she is going to put red in, or else it doesn't stay in.

Trouble with black is that everything stands out! Depends on how out of the box you want to be and what your style is. Think about dark cherry streaks interspersed with chestnut ones, should give a light lift but dont go overboard. Try it and if it doesnt work you can redye back to black. Remember, the darker the hair the more difficult it is to achieve a consistent colour. Good luck..
