Permed Black hair looks stiff, flat and dull, most of the time it's all broken off and it looks bad. Weaves look tacky and cheap. If you want long hair, you can have if you stop putting heat and chemicals on it all the time. Look around at most natural sistas they have long afros, locks, braids etc.. while most sistas with relaxers barely have any hair. You all are the most unique women in the world, love your dark skin, full lips, cute nose, beautiful hair, curvy figure etc.. Stop buying into the White man's lies.

I'm glad a Black man finally came up and said that. You're probably the first I've ever come across to say they like our hair natural instead of straight. It's encouraging to know there is at least one man out there who likes our hair natural instead of "long and silky and to run their hands through". I've been wanting to go natural for a while now but don't wanna cut all my hair off! *also like Danielle said, it's expensive to maintain natural hair in cute styles.*

Please continue to encourage other Black women in your life that they are beautiful with what God gave them!

this is a fun one to answer. I am sista and i loveto experiment with hair and wear wigs- i dont like weaves because you cant take them off. so why i dont wear natural hair as much ( i wear my natural hair sometimes too.)

1. i like versatilty.

2. do you know how long it takes to take care of natural thick hair and make it look healthy -its a lot of maitenence and way more expensive for me than a wig

3. say what you will but i get more attention from guys with the fake hair- not saying i do it for them but I have noticed that for some men - the natural thing is an acquired taste.

4. its hard to stop once you stop . my mother who worked 2 jobs when i was little couldnt deal with my thick longer than shoulder length bush and gave me a perm in the 5th grade. whichwasnt unusual, once you have had it in your hair so long its hard to stop and your hair breaks off so bad from needed the perm after 6 weeks.

I dont think it has anything to do with the white man for me it doesnt. im just the type of girl who like to look good and not spend all my money and time trying to do it. it about convenience for the hard working sista!

well my hair is permed but it is pretty long , but I do love natural hair I am thinking about going back natural I kind of miss the big fro.... and weave, I don't do weave but it looks nice if it is done right

Thank you so much. I am African American and I wear my own hair and I love it. I'm not mixed, or have "good hair". You are so right if we stop with the weaves we can show our true beauty. My hair isnt short, or breaking, it stays full of body, and so soft.... So you got a lot of haters responding to this one. Great job, keep up the good work.

Thankyou for your compliments. It means a lot to sistas like me. However, straighter hair is easier to manage. And weaves are so interchangeable that I can look this way today and that way tomorrow. It's not about wanting to be white for some of us we just like to play with different styles and be a girl.

Your point is well taken. However, people need to know that the concept of make-up and weaves is not a European one. African women have for centuries embellished themselves. They have painted their skin with different colors, worn jewellery, used materials such as sisal to accentuate their hairstyles and to lengthen or thicken their braids. Unlike the 1960's when 'fros were natural, nowadays, the rage is to add extensions. Many of the women who currently wear Afros, use weaves to make their 'fros appear thicker and more abundant. As for the white woman (I forgot your name) who made the comments about black people taking responsibility for themselves, you are out of line on this. Where does your comment fit in this equation? Where in this question did you get the impression that blacks don't take responsibility for themselves? We're talking about hair and about black women learning to appreciate their own special brand of beauty instead of trying to imitate the images that whites and the white media promote. What's wrong with that? Does it offend you that some blacks prefer to appreciate what comes naturally to them instead of emulating white standards? Why does that bother you? Did any black person tell you that you shouldn't do whatever you want to do with yourself? I certainly hope that black women will continue to accept themselves as they are, every big butt, every curve, because the more they try to emulate white standards, the more likely that they will assume the maladies that so many white women suffer in trying to be a certain way, and become bulimic and anorexic (something that does exist but is not common among black women.)

Hold on there sir!!! I'm BLACK and i straighten my hair during school and its long!(to my mid-back) I only get perms about twice a year, but i don't wear nor like weaves.(i like my length the way it is.). I have good long hair! My younger sister has butt length hair and she started straightening hers. I usually leave my hair natural in the summer! I like my skin tone, my lips(even though they are a bit small), my hair, my curvy figure, and everything else about me! I'm not "buying into the white man's lies", thats so racists.

well all black women are not the same certain hair styles dont suit everybody. some look nice in natural hair styles some dont

im half black and i never had a perm ,dont wear wigs or weaves but if some women choose to wear that thats them.all races of women actually wear wigs and weaves not just black. but i use my plug in flat iron,i have my hair braided sometimes in the summer.thats me...not the white mans imaginary lies

You said love your dark skin....im very light complexion....full lips...mine are average....cute nose mine is small....im black but dont fit the description. Not all black women are dark skinned!! Black women look different. However im assuming that by your logic i wouldnt be considered black. I know quite a few black people who have the outlook hmm if u ask me its discrimination against light skin vs. dark anyway

Some black women have different grades of hair also. Anyway i have a relaxer and my hair is in the center of my back and very thick and healthy. I choose not to have natural hair and i like my hair relaxed more than natural...and its just your opinion that black women look better with natural hair. some dont feel that way.
