i'm mexican with very light skin, and my stepmom's been begging me to dye my hair blonde for a while. well; i'm going to my hometown to see family and friends that i haven't seen in over a year. would it be a good change to die my black hair blonde? i'm scared of messing it up! but alot of celebrities look much better with blonde hair. tell me about your experiences. also; how much $ are we talking about for maintenance?

Blonde is out. Natural is in. Keep your natural hair. Get highlights if you really want something done.

oh girl i did that back in the day and you dont get great blond hair right away. it takes time and a lot of bleach. it is expensive i would guess 150 and you need to touch up your roots every 4 weeks probabley 60. i would start with hightlights first and just keep adding more and more each time.

I would put blonde highlights in it not dye it blonde. Right now i have my original black hair with medium blonde highlights. I might get highlights that are more blonde lol.

Don't bother. it's super expensive and it takes a long time for it to actually look blonde. when you first get it it will look like crap. and since you're mexican it doesnt really look good unless its natural.

you better go to a salon where the mix it up for you with the right amount of peroxide my cousin tried to go blonde she s mexican also and her jet black hair never made it to blonde she was always stuck with orange or gold looking colors lmao we used to crack on her all the time call her tangerine but it was mostly because she did it at home

I wouldnt go completely blond if I was you. I would definatly get blonde highlights only because if you want to make all of your hair blonde, means that you have to strip all of your hair and which will definatly kill it. And if you are mexican the blonde hair will look too fake. I am italian and I highlight mine, if I went blonde it definatly wouldnt look right. Highlights will really brighten up your face without killing your hair.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. It is very tricky to get black hair to lighten that much without damage, and without getting a reddish burnt orange color. It will have to be pre-lightened (bleached) then colored to the shade of blonde you want for pretty results. If you were my client I would advise doing some highlights. They are lower maintainence because touch ups are not required as often. With all over bleaching and color you are probably looking at about 100.00 depending on where you live, at least every two months if you can stand the roots to be that long. Hair grows 1/2 inch per month, so imagine 1" of black contrasted with blonde...... not a good thing. With Highlihghts you will be able to go 4-6 months without touching up because the roots are not as visable unless you get really heavy highlights. I do not recommend trying either of these services on your own! Please allow someone who is a licensed professional do this for you to avoid serious chemical burns and hair damage.

It sounds like your mom is forcing you...mine is just the opposite, she won't let me change my hair color. I think you should try highlights first than, if you like the new do dye it all. This would probably be the most expensive way, but this way you can see if you like it. If you are way short, try hitting your step-mom up for cash since she wants you to do it so badly. By the way- my friends tell me it is more expensive to dye your hair rather than just highlight it, but either way, it will add up because your roots will grow in black.

I highlight my brown hair every month. The darker your hair is, the worse your roots will look when it starts to grow out. Mine is $60 every month, and that's just for the roots. It might be different if you dye all your hair. But you will notice your eyebrows more if it's all lighter, with highlights some of the dark color will show through so your brows won't look as bad. If you decide to highlight it use the FOILS (the cap doesn't color even), and make sure you use A LOT of conditioner and you will need it because your hair will be really tangled!!! But I love my highlighed hair and will spend whatever I can to keep it like this. Some people's hair looks really fried, but if you keep it nice, then that won't happen. Happy Hair-Coloring!!!

P.S. If you highlight it first, then you will have an idea of what you look like with lighter hair. Then, if you decide you like it, then you can dye it all blonde. But make sure you go to a professional, you won't want that nasty burnt orange color.....

Oh Sweetheart! I had very dark brown hair and bleached it blond in 1982. Back then it cost me $55 for the first bleach and $15 each for the 2nd and 3rd bleach. It took 3 1/3 hours and made my hair very weak and brittle.

I can't imagine how much it would cost now! I had to do touch ups on the sides near my ears and at the top of my head every 2 weeks because my hair was so dark. I also had my eyebrows bleached and colored. It was a pain to keep up.

I would like to suggest that you start with a warm brown frost.

That way you could have very pretty natural looking highlights.

My Mother had very black hair and olive skin and she tried on a blond wig and it made her look like a hooker.

You might want to try on a blond wig and see if you like the look.

Good luck!
