Oh, why would you want to change that! I think dark black hair is beautiful, a lot of people try to get that color. But if you really want to change it, just tell them what you told us. I am glad to see you will be going to a salon to do this, because going lighter at home is hard, I turned my hair PURPLE on time! Hope you get the results you are looking for. Merry Christmas!

I'd check out anything at a drug store that specifically says "lightener". I can't remember off hand what brand I recently used, but I know each brand has their own thing.

Lighteners don't totally kill your hair, either.

If you go to the salon, just see what they recommend, if they are going to do it. It's a pretty easy solution if you wanted to do it at home.. and cheaper too!

try cellophane or ammonia free and peroxide free hair colors. These are gentle on the hair.. will probably just coat your hair but will fade in time. or try the darkest brown shades of loreal excellence that you can do at home. I use this (even when I dont have grey hair) because it doesnt damage the hair as much as other home DIY products

IF you want to save the trouble of going out to a salon, just lighten it at home.

Put lemon juice into your hair, then let it sit in the sun for a bit. If you do this for a few days, your hair will get lighter, and look natural

Oh your hair sounds pretty. You could probably have some subtle red lights put in it. You can have it bleached, but it will dammage your hair. Consider just styling it really nice or getting a new style for your hair or a cut. Dark Natural black hair looks really good. My moms hair is like that and I love it.

Ask a professional. Tell them what you want and they'll give you the best answer. Everyone's hair is unique.

First if you know someone who has had done what you wnt done ask them who they went to first. Go to a good well known stylist who knows what they are doing. Don't try to do this at home with any bleaching products you buy at WAL-mART!!! yOUR HAIR WILL TURn Orange!!! Just go to a good salon and sy you wnt a subtle change and you only want to go 1-2 shades lighter. Either all over or just in high lights. Then let the professionals take it from there!!

Lemon juice is actually bad for your hair. If you want to lighten it without using bleach, go with a high lift color using double 40 developer, thats what used on me last week and the color that was applied to my hair came out very vibrant. Since you want to go subtle maybe a high lift color and a double 20 or 30 developer. But its good that you are going to a salon to get this done, the hair color at the stores ususally dont say what volume developer is being used and its probally a low one volume.

Please please please do not try to lighten your hair at home. Your hair will most definitely go orange. I would suggest going to a professional and telling them exactly what you want. If you want to keep your hair looking natural, tell the stylist that you would like foils done with two different colors. One color being one level lighter than your natural color and the second, being two levels lighter than your natural color.

Its worth the price you will have to pay to get it done professionally. I know that in our salon, if somebody has colored their hair at home and then come to us to fix it, we charge double what it would have cost them if they had come to us in the first place.

yeah, just get highlights and you can tell the stylist you want light/soft brown highlights, it may take a while since your natural color is jet black and it will take longer for the color to penetrate to the cortex which is where all the color is...
