Dying natural black hair a light brown?

I have natural black hair but I want it to be a light brown. If I used a blonde dye, would it give me that light brown colour that I want?

i think you need to go to a salon and get it done because i have really black hair and i wanted it to be light brown too, i bought blonde hair coloring and my hair turned out really bad and it got damaged a lot. at the salon theyre gonna de-color all of your hair and then put the color on. doing that will also damage your hair but if its the color you want go for it. just buy a good conditioner and dont blow dry/staighten/curl for a good while....good luck!

there is so much science behind what color you need to pick you should go to a salon. Since you are going lighter never use the over the counter stuff you pick up at wal-mart. You will end up with a mess.

the volume of peroxide that comes in the box colors probably is not be enough to lighten your hair, i would go to a colorist and have them do a strand test to see what volume works best....also the process is not just putting the color on the hair, you have to start with the ends to about 1 1/2 inch from the roots let that process 20 min then go back and do the roots for 20 min, it can be too messy to do yourself......and if you use a blond on your natural black, you'll be a horrible shade of orange and probably patchy at that!!!!
