I have dark black hair, and my beard has a lot of orange/red in it. why?

I have dark hair, i am growing a beard and the mustache area ad sideburn area is all black, but around the chin area i have a lot of orange hair color. Does anyone know why?

That seems to happen with alot of people. You probably have the genes for red hair too. Red is usually an underlying pigment for dark hair. People usually have more or les of this like some people have more or less skin pigment

before i turned gray i had the same hair and beard color as you do.i always assumed it was a genetic thing linked to a Irish ancestry. i understand all red haired people originated in that part of the world.perhaps i'm wrong but i have heard this.
